Translation: During the three-day global meeting, the World Stem Cell Summit in Pasadena, CA, over 150 expert speakers presented the latest information in stem cell research to over 1,000 attendees.  The conference was attended by professionals in science, medicine, law, education, policy, and business, as well as patients who could benefit from the research. Chinese stem cell research and related markets drew attention.  This meeting is the largest stem cell industry conference in North America focused on translating basic research into cures.

The Summit founder, Bernie Segal of Genetics Policy Institute, explained that the stem cell translational research process faces many challenges, including financial, government policy and legal challenges.  Only industries globally participating and cooperating can turn laboratory stem cell research results into cures for patients, and that is the main purpose of the summit.

China leads in published stem cell research articles, second only to the United States.   Bernie is quoted as saying that “In the stem cell research and related practice fields everyone should watch China’s progress. “
Richard Garr, president of the stem cell research company Neuralstem who has several collaborators in China, told news China reporter that China is eager to be involved in the stem cell research field.  “The Chinese stem cell market is promising and that is why we set up Neuralstem Suzhou in 2010.”

Another professional in attendance at the conference is quoted as saying “I’ve been to Beijing and Shanghai many times.  China has made great achievements in the stem cell research field and I am looking forward to working with them.”
